Baltimore City leverages govtech leader’s cloud technology to manage critical processes and support geospatial decision-making to help ensure community health standards
(San Ramon, Calif. – February 22, 2021) – Accela, the leading provider of cloud-based solutions for government, today announced Baltimore City Health Department, Bureau of Environmental Health has selected Accela’s environmental health platform for its licensing, permitting, and inspection services. The Bureau uses regulatory and educational tools to minimize environmental health hazards and to ensure that the health standards set forth in city statutes, regulations, and ordinances are met. The Bureau’s Environmental Inspection Services unit performs unannounced inspections of retail food establishments, school cafeterias, swimming pools, and other facilities and conducts investigations into environmental complaints.
“Modernizing outdated or ineffective data systems is vital for environmental health practitioners in 2021. As cities and states work to re-open across the country, agencies are looking to quickly re-establish important community foundations, including highly visible restaurants and schools, while maintaining public health,” said Darryl Booth, Accela’s General Manager for Environmental Health.
The award-winning health department also places a high value on online services, including applications, complaints, fee payments, inspection history, and more, which are especially pivotal in light of the City’s COVID-19 response strategy. The City will also continue to rely on essential GIS data through an Accela-provided ArcGIS interface supporting geospatial decision-making and reporting. This project launched in January 2021 and will include data-conversion, automated workflow, reports, dashboards, and field-inspection.
Today’s announcement reinforces Accela’s commitment to delivering modern digital tools to help build thriving communities, now and in the future.
